Princeton, N.J. - The eighth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team jumps into the ECAC portion of its schedule this weekend when No. 2 Dartmouth and Vermont visit Baker Rink on Friday and Saturday. Princeton enters the games after a win and a tie at Providence last weekend.
Last Time Out... Princeton posted a win and a tie in last weekend's season-opening series at No. 10 Providence. On Saturday, the Tigers spotted Providence leads of 2-1 and 4-2, but sophomore Kim Pearce scored her fourth goal of the game with 34 seconds remaining to knot the game up at 4-4. On Sunday, Princeton used a balanced effort to down the Friars 4-1. Sophomore Liz Keady scored twice in win.
Princeton vs. Dartmouth... Like Princeton, Dartmouth opened the season a week ago. The Big Green played one game, a 7-1 win over Boston College. Dartmouth is ranked second in the nation and reached the Frozen Four in each of the past two seasons. The Series with the Big Green... Princeton is 32-20-3 all-time against Dartmouth and 17-6-3 on home ice. The teams have split their season series in each of the past three years and the Tigers have won two straight on home ice. Last season Princeton won 5-2 at Baker Rink and lost 4-2 in Hanover.
Princeton vs. Vermont... Vermont has been in action for over a month now and is 2-6-1 on the season with a pair of wins over Sacred Heart and a tie against Maine. The Catamounts enter the weekend following a 3-1 loss on Saturday to Boston College.
The Series with the Catamounts... Princeton is a perfect 7-0 all-time against Vermont and 3-0 in games played in Princeton. Saturday's game will be the final ECAC visit to Princeton for Vermont as they will be joining Hockey East beginning next season. Last year, Princeton won 3-1 at home and 5-1 on the road.
A Look at the ECAC Hockey League... All 11 ECAC teams will be in action this weekend, eight of which will be playing league games. Thus far this season there has only been one ECAC series, in which league-newcomer Clarkson swept Union to climb atop the standings.
Looking Ahead... The Tigers continue their homestand next weekend when they face No. 10 Brown and No. 3 Harvard. Last year Princeton defeated Harvard at home, but fell to Brown.
Sophomore Scoring... All eight Princeton goals last weekend at Providence were scored by sophomores. Kim Pearce scored four goals on Saturday, while Liz Keady (2), Alison Ralph and Dina McCumber scored on Sunday.
Between the Pipes... Junior goaltender Roxanne Gaudiel backstopped the Tigers in both games last weekend. On Saturday she made 27 saves in the tie, while on Sunday she sticked aside 22 Friar shots. Tuesday, she was named the league's goaltender of the week.
Pollsters... With last weekend's performance, the Tigers climbed into the national polls and sit at No. 8 in both national polls. The losses knocked Providence out of the polls.
