Final Stats
Fifteen minutes into the first period the No. 8 Tigers (1-1-1 overall, 0-1-0 ECACHL) were on the power play, looking to knot their game with No. 2 Dartmouth (2-0-0, 1-0-0) at one. A turnover and a breakaway quickly changed that.
The Big Green's Katie Weatherston took a pass from teammate Cheryl Muranko and broke up ice for a one-on-one chance against Princeton goalie Roxanne Gaudiel, easily scoring to give Dartmouth a 2-0 lead on a shorthanded goal and caging the Tigers' rally.
Earlier in the first, Cherie Piper got the Big Green going, stick-handling her way in close to the net and beating Gaudiel from just outside the crease on the right side at 4:09. Assists went to Nicole Ruta and Kirsti Anderson.
Weatherston scored again in the second, this time on the power play, when Meagan Walton threaded her a pass in front of the goal on the left side. Weatherston flipped the puck past Gaudiel for a 3-0 lead, giving Dartmouth one goal each on the power play, shorthanded, and at even strength in the game.
Princeton had trouble generating scoring chances throughout the game but certainly had its chances. The Tigers went 0-9 on the power play.
Dartmouth managed only one shot on goal in the third as it protected its three-goal lead.
Gaudiel made 12 saves in the defeat. Christine Capuano stopped 18 shots for the Big Green in her first win of the season.
Piper went down with an injury late in the third but skated off under her own power.
Princeton hosts Vermont on Saturday at 4 pm at Baker Rink.
