Women's Hockey Rallies From Two-Goal Deficit to Edge Boston College 3-2 in Overtime

Chestnut Hill, Mass - The Princeton women's hockey team scored twice in the third period to erase a 2-0 Boston College lead, and then won the game in overtime on sophomore Kim Pearce's second goal of the game to edge the Eagles 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Kelley Rink. Princeton improved to 9-4-2 with the win.
The Eagles came out shooting with nine shots on goal in opening period. At 13:45, BC opened up the scoring when Colleen Harris set up the goal with a pass to Krystal Strassman on the goal line. Strassman found Deborah Spillane at the top of the crease who beat Princeton junior goaltender Roxanne Gaudiel to give the Eagles a 1-0 edge.
Princeton (9-4-2) was called for two penalties with less than one minute remaining in the first to give the Eagles a 5-on-3 advantage to start the second. Just 35 seconds in, Sarah Feldman connected on a pass from Spillane for the power-play goal and 2-0 Eagle lead. Boston College goaltender Alison Quandt was unbeatable in the middle frame as she stopped all 13 shots she faced. Four minutes into the period the junior stuffed a Princeton breakaway and with 30 seconds remaining she shut down another breakaway to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead heading into the third period.
In the third period, Princeton put 11 shots on goal and finally broke through with a goal at 3:49 when junior Chrissie Norwich scored her first goal of the season, off a pass from junior Heather Jackson.
Seven minutes later, at 10:47, Princeton knotted the game up at two when Pearce tied the game off a pass from senior Katharine Maglione and sophomore Dina McCumber.
The two teams headed into the extra frame deadlocked at two. With 11 seconds remaining in the game, Pearce tallied the gamewinner for her second goal of the game, which was assisted by sophomore Laura Watt and Liz Keady.
Roxanne Gaudiel stopped 18 shots for Princeton for her ninth win of the season, while Quandt stopped 27.
Princeton is off for break and will resume action on New Year's Day at New Hampshire.
