Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton women's hockey team hosts its travel-partner Yale tonight in a rare midweek ECAC contest at Baker Rink. With a win tonight, the Tigers can move into a tie with Harvard for first-place in the league standings.
It's Gameday... The Princeton women's hockey team continues its seven-game homestand tonight against Yale in its first and only midweek contest of the season.
Last Time Out... The Tigers posted a pair of league wins over Vermont and Dartmouth to help lift them into second-place in the ECAC standings. Freshman Liz Keady had a goal and two assists to spark the Tigers to a 3-1 win over Vermont Friday night, while senior Gretchen Anderson had two goals and two assists in Saturday's 5-2 triumph over Dartmouth.
Princeton vs. Yale... Yale is 11-12-3 overall and 7-8-0 in the ECAC. The Bulldogs currently rank sixth in the league standings after last weekend's split with Vermont and Dartmouth. Yale enters the game having won three of its last four games. The Series with the Bulldogs... Princeton is 45-3-1 all time against Yale, including a mark of 24-1 on home ice. Princeton won the first meeting of the season 3-2 in New Haven thanks to three goals from Gretchen Anderson. Last season, Princeton won three of four meetings, including a sweep of the ECAC first round payoff series.
Winning Notes... The results extended Princeton's winning streak to six consecutive games and the Tigers have won 11 of their last 12 games. Princeton stands two wins shy of 20, a mark the Tigers reached for the first time last season.
Looking Ahead...The Tigers have five regular season games remaining, including three this week. After tonight, Princeton will play its final non-conference games of the season when it will host Mercyhurst at Baker Rink for a pair of afternoon games this weekend. The Lakers sit ahead of Princeton one spot in the polls and the pairwise rankings so the games will be important as the end of the season approaches.
A Look at the Standings... The Tigers climbed to second in the league standings with their wins, just two points out of first. The other teams in the top-five each have one game in hand on the Tigers, which will become two before they each play this weekend. Patty Kazmaier Award... Senior Gretchen Anderson was announced one of the top-10 candidates for the 2004 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. Anderson becomes the third Tiger to be nominated for the award, following the likes of Ali Coughlin '99 and Andrea Kilbourne '03. The Kazmaier Award recognizes the accomplishments of the most outstanding player in women's collegiate varsity ice hockey each season. Last weekend, asfter being held pointless against Vermont, she broke out against Dartmouth, factoring in on four of Princeton's five goals in a 5-2 win over Dartmouth. She had two goals and two assists in the game.
Last Weekend's Leaders... Three Tigers, senior Gretchen Anderson, freshman Liz Keady and freshman Kim Pearce each tallied four points over the weekend for Princeton. Each had two goals and two assists. Keady was the spark on Friday, as she was involved in the scoring of all three goals. Pearce had two goals Friday and two assists Saturday.
In the Net... Senior goaltender Megan Van Beusekom posted a pair of wins this weekend to improve to 14-6 on the season. On Friday night, she played one period against Vermont and made four saves to earn the win. Saturday she stymied the Dartmouth offense, making 29 saves as Princeton captured a 5-2 victory.
