John Basler took the mile run by nearly two seconds and Paul Lyons and Josh McCaughey won the shot put and 35-lb. weight throw respectively as the Princeton men's track team competed in a triangular meet with Penn State and Connecticut at Jadwin Gym Saturday afternoon.
McCaughey's throw of 20.47 meters not only broke a meet record but was a provisional qualifying mark for the upcoming NCAA championships. His throw was over two meters better than the second-place finisher.
Lyons also won the shot put easily with a throw of 16.95 meters, more than half a meter better than second-place finisher Dane Miller of Penn State.
Basler, a sophomore, continued his strong indoor season by taking the mile in a time of 4:13.85, nearly two seconds better than Pat Blake of UConn. Mike Kopp finished second for Princeton in the 500 meters, while Jon Kieliszak was second in the 800 meters and Andrian Mullings finished third in the 60 meter hurdles.
The Tigers, who compete at Penn State's National Open next weekend, also won the 4X400 meter relay by nearly three seconds over the Nittany Lions.
