REDWOOD SPRINGS, Calif. - The Princeton men's heavyeight and women's lightweight crews opened their season at the Windermere College Classic, and both had winning performances in their opening races, including a very impressive first performance from the men.
In the third race of the opening session, Princeton beat Navy by more than four seconds. The Tigers came in at 5:46.72, while the Midshipmen finished in 5:50.81. Princeton also started last season with a win, although it was a much closer race. The win is the 90th in the career of head coach Curtis Jordan, which ties him with Dutch Schoch for the all-time lead. Jordan can move to the top of the list before he comes back to New Jersey, as Princeton will face Yale and California during the weekend.
The opener of the women's lightweight crew season provided a familiar foe, as Princeton, the five-time defending national champion, topped Harvard to open the season. The Tigers, who went 5-0 against the Crimson last year, finished in 6:55.38, while Harvard came in at 6:58.38. The Tigers will look to make it a perfect weekend against Georgetown and Stanford during the week.
