Heavyweight, Women's Lightweight Crews Complete Perfect Saturday
March 27, 2004 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
March 28, 2004
The No. 1 Princeton women's lightweight crew took out Georgetown in a time of 7:15.20, while the No. 3 heavyweight crew routed Yale in a time of 5:51.20, to complete a perfect day for the Tigers' two varsity crews.
It was also a record-setting day for heavyweight coach Curtis Jordan, who became the all-time leader in wins for heavyweight crew when he won his 91st race against the Bulldogs. He moves ahead of the legendary Dutch Schoch on the wins list.
For the Princeton women, it was more of the same. Heather Smith's team hasn't lost a race since 2002, and her boat had little troubles with the Hoyas on this day. Georgetown came in at 7:21.31, more than six seconds behind Princeton's pace.
The men had an even easier time, topping Ivy rival Yale (5:59.37) by more than eight seconds. The Tigers are expected to have its toughest challenge of the weekend on Sunday when they race co-No. 3 California. Twenty minutes following that race, the women's lightweight crew will finish its weekend against Stanford.
Princeton's second varsity eight went perfect on the day as well, topping Navy and Yale. To follow the results as they happen, click here.
