Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton women's water polo team will host Olympic-bound Team USA on April 12 at 7 p.m. The 2003 World Champions stop at DeNunzio Pool during their coast-to-coast collegiate tour throughout March and April before heading to Athens this summer.
Team USA is the Olympic gold medal favorite, improving from No. 8 in the world in 1998 before head coach Guy Baker took over to the top of the rankings in 2004.
Baker was the first national team coach to schedule games against collegiate teams, an agenda he began last season. He believes the tour not only prepares the team for the Olympics but also promotes women's water polo around the country.
"We want to get out there and put on a show for people who don't normally get to see us," Baker says.
Team USA defeated San Diego State and Stanford to start its collegiate tour on the West Coast in March. The women play at Michigan and Bucknell before visiting Princeton.
The Team USA game, Princeton's last at DeNunzio this season, will prepare the Tigers for the Southern and Eastern Championships on April 17-18 and 23-24.
