Norfolk, Va. - The Princeton baseball team won its second game of the season defeating Old Dominion 6-1 Saturday night at the Bud Metheny Complex. Sophomore Erik Stiller and freshman Eric Walz combined on a four-hitter as the Tigers are now 2-0 on the young season.
Stiller started the game and pitched five scoreless innings allowing just one hit and striking out six. When he left the score was 0-0, but Walz came in and allowed one run on three hits over the final four innings to earn the win in his first collegiate appearance.
Offensively, the Tigers broke a scoreless game open in the top of the seventh with four runs. Sophomore Andrew Salini led off with a single through the left side. A passed ball sent him to second and he scored when sophomore Zach Wendkos doubled to right center. Freshman Aaron Prince then drew a walk, which was followed by an infield single off the bat of senior Steve Young to load the bases. The next batter was junior Adam Balkan who reached on a fielder's choice that scored Princeton and Wendkos. Young scored when the following batter, junior B.J. Szymanski, grounded out. Old Dominion got back a run in the eighth when Keith Hahn scored on a wild pitch, but the Tigers were not done as they stretched their lead with two runs in the ninth thanks to a two-run homer over the right field fence from Szymanski. It was Szymanski's second home run in as many games.
Princeton looks to complete the weekend sweep with a win tomorrow afternoon when the Tigers and Monarchs meet at 1 p.m.
