Women's Water Polo Defeats Villanova In First Game At Southerns

Villanova, Pa. - Elyse Colgan and Kelly Melia-Teevan each scored three goals to lead top-seeded Princeton past Villanova 13-8 in the first game of the Southern Championships at Villanova.
The game was tied 3-3 after the first quarter with Tiger goals from Melia-Teevan, Anne-Lise Maag and Samantha Shaughnessy. Colgan scored once in the second quarter for a 4-3 Princeton edge at the half.
The Tigers opened up the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 6-2. Colgan scored twice while Melia-Teevan, Jessica Ajoux, Megan Donahue and Danielle Carlson each chipped in one goal. Princeton led 10-5 entering the fourth.
Melia-Teevan and Donahue scored one fourth-quarter goal apiece, and Jazmin Brown drew and scored a four meter for the 13-8 win.
Donahue and Carlson led the defense with five and four steals, while Lauren Lister and Shannon DeVore split time in goal. Lister had three saves in the first half and DeVore had one in the second.
Princeton plays Maryland at 4 p.m.
