Jackson, N.J. - The Princeton men's golf team claimed its fourth Ivy League crown in the last five years Sunday afternoon at Metedeconk National Golf Club. The Tigers used rounds of 310-305-310 to card a 925 and take the first-place spot.
Princeton's Jason Gerken shot a final-day 72 to finish with a three-day total of 225 to earn the individual title. Gerken was followed by three golfers in a tie for second place at 230 - Princeton's John Sawin, Cornell's Kevin Scelfo, and Columbia's Matthew Wong.
Penn carded a 308 on Sunday to finish in second place with a 942 for the tournament. Columbia placed third at 944, one stroke ahead of Yale at 945. Both Penn and Yale posted a 308 on Sunday to claim low team round for the day. Princeton's 305 in Saturday's second round was the low team round for the tournament and gave helped give the Tigers a 15-shot lead to start Sunday's final 18 holes. The top seven finishers earned All-Ivy recognition for 2004. Joining Gerken, Sawin, Scelfo, Wong and Nickell, are Harvard's Chris Wu, Yale's Steve Gray and Brian Kim, and Penn's Derek Rogers.
Greg Johnson was the third highest finisher for the Tigers, he shot a third-round 83 to finish in a tie for 11th place. John Locke and Creighton Page rounded out the Tiger five. Locke shot a three-round 242 to tie for 19th and Page finished 25th with a 244.
