Villanova, Pa. - Elyse Colgan scored four goals as the Princeton women's water polo team edged George Washington 7-6 in the title game of the Southern Championships. The Tigers defeated Villanova and Maryland on Saturday to reach the championship game.
Jazmin Brown won both sprints in the first and second quarter as Princeton took a 4-3 halftime lead. Brown scored the Tigers' lone goal for a 1-1 tie in the first before Colgan scored all three goals in the second.
The Tigers outscored George Washington 3-2 in the third to enter the fourth up two, 7-5. Colgan, Jessica Ajoux and Danielle Carlson each chipped in one third-quarter goal. George Washington scored once in the fourth but Princeton held on for the win despite scoring no goals in the final period.
Megan Donahue led Princeton's defense with four steals while Madeline McCarthy had four saves, one steal and one assist in goal.
