Worcester, Mass - The Princeton heavyweight varsity eight placed second in its grand final Sunday at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The Tigers fell to Harvard in that race, as well as the freshman eight, the lone other boat to medal for Princeton on the afternoon.
Varsity Eight
Princeton reached the highlight race of the day, the varsity eight grand final, and found itself in a competitive battle with the likes of Navy, Northeastern and Wisconsin down the stretch. The good news is that Princeton would win that competition by finishing in 05:47.66, but the bad news was that the race was for second place. Defending national champion Harvard was the cream of the crop this afternoon, winning the race in 05:42.85. Members of the varsity eight for Princeton will earn All-Ivy honors for placing second.
Second Varsity Eight
Princeton reached the grand final and came in at 06:01.72, but it wasn't enough to factor into the medal competition. Harvard, which won the team points competition, came in at 05:54.67, and Cornell and Wisconsin rounded out the medal stand. Third Varsity Eight
Princeton battled into the grand final, but couldn't make much of a splash against the competition. The Tigers finished in 06:12.51, more than eight seconds behind bronze medalist Yale. Harvard won the race, while Wisconsin placed second.
Freshman Eight
The freshman eight earned the other medal for Princeton, as the Tigers placed third in their grand final. Princeton came in at 06:04.61, outlasting local rival Penn for the final spot on the medal stand. Harvard held off Brown for the top spot.
Second Freshman Eight
Brown won the second freshman eight grand final, while Penn and Navy placed second and third, respectively. Princeton took fourth in 06:14.94.
