CAMDEN, N.J. - The Princeton women's lightweight eight took the bronze medal at Sunday's Eastern Sprint final, as the Tigers fell to Radcliffe and Wisconsin in the grand final. The Tigers claimed victory in the grand finals of the novice eights and varsity fours.
Princeton, which had won the Eastern title in both 2002 and 2003, finished the grand final in 6:42.10, more than three seconds behind Radcliffe (6:38.10). Wisconsin, the last team to beat Princeton in a grand final (2001), finished second in 6:41.47.
The Tigers, who have won the last five IRA national championships, are now 2-2 against Radcliffe this year. Princeton topped the Crimson in the season-opening race at the Windermere Collegiate Classic, and also beat out Radcliffe in the Knecht Cup final. The Crimson has taken the last two, a dual race in Cambridge and Sunday's EAWRC final. The rubber race will come at the IRA championships in June, where Princeton will look for title No. 6.
Princeton did claim wins in the novice eights (7:04.40) and varsity fours (7:36.40). The freshman boat won in convincing fashion, while the fours held off a tough Wisconsin squad.
