Princeton, N.J. - Princeton women's hockey coach Jeff Kampersal recently announced the six members of the women's hockey Class of 2008. The four forwards, one defender and one goaltender will be looked upon to fill in for the five seniors who graduated following the 2003-04 season.
"The Princeton Women's Ice Hockey Class of 2008 is comprised of solid citizens who will represent the University well," says Kampersal. "They are intelligent, articulate, well-rounded and fun. They are talented hockey players and they compete hard. We are looking forward to welcoming them into PWIH family in September."
The six members of the class are forwards Micol Martinelli (Princeton, N.J.), Sonja Novak (Oak Park, Ill.), Marykate Oakley (Buffalo, N.Y.), and Brittany Salmon (Batavia, N.Y.), defender Margaret Jennings (Charing Cross, Ont.), and goaltender Rebecca Allen (Medina, Ohio). Martinelli played high school hockey at the Lawrenceville School. She was the team captain as a senior and was the Star Ledger New Jersey High School Player of the Year as a junior and a senior. She also played for the Princeton Tiger Lillies. Novak played high school hockey at Oak Park & River Forest High School and also played for Team Illinois.
Oakley and Salmon come to Princeton from Nichols School in Buffalo, where they both co-captained the hockey team their senior years. Both also played for the New York State champion Buffalo Bisons Midget AA team.
Jennings played for the Windsor Jr. Wildcats Intermediate AA team prior to coming to Princeton, where she was an assistant captain and league all-star for two seasons, while Allen attended Gilmour Academy where she was an assistant captain and the team's most valuable player her senior year. She also backstopped the Ohio Flames to a third-place finish at Nationals.
