The Princeton field hockey team hopes to end a three-game losing skid and improve to 2-1 in Ivy League play when its travels to Wien Stadium in New York City for a 7 p.m. matchup with Columbia Friday night.
The Tigers' 32-game league winning streak may have come to an end with last weekend's loss to Dartmouth, but Princeton will look to begin a new streak against a team they've outscored 45-5 in seven all-time meetings. The Tigers beat Columbia at Class of 1952 Stadium last season, 5-1, outshooting the Lions 37-6 in the process.
Junior Lauren Ehrlichman leads the Tigers with three goals this season, all of them coming in the second half of a 6-0 win over Yale two weekends ago. Despite outshooting their opponents 88-69 on the season and having 60 penalty corners to just 25 for their opponents, however, Princeton has been outscored 18-9 through six games.
Columbia is just 2-4 on the season but is 1-0 in the Ivy League thanks to a 6-2 victory over Cornell Sept. 10. The win over the Big Red was the Lions' first Ivy League victory since the 2001 season. Columbia began varsity field hockey during the 1997 season. The Lions last played this past Sunday, falling to Rider 2-0.
Princeton is 1-1 in league play. Dartmouth (2-0), Harvard (1-0) and Columbia (1-0) are all undefeated heading into this weekend.
