Providence, R.I. -- With two seconds remaining, the game was tied at 62 following two free throws by sophomore Katy Digovich. Princeton took the floor on defense and sent Brown's Andrea Conrad to the foul line. She made the first and sealed the game for Brown. Princeton's record falls to 8-6 and 0-1 in the Ivy league, while Brown improves to 11-5 and 3-0 in the conference. Digovich made the second end of a pair of technical free throws to make it a two-point game. Following a steal by sophomore Elyse Umeda the Tigers got the ball back and went to junior Becky Brown under the basket for a game-tying lay-up with 54 seconds left in the game.
Umeda carried momentum into the second half with an and-one play on Princeton's first possession and led 30-29. The Tigers made a great defensive stand by not allowing a basket after the Bears grabbed an offensive rebound that led to a travel call with five seconds remaining on the shot clock. As Princeton controlled on the opposite end, freshman Meagan Cowher connected from downtown and cut the lead to three, 45-42. Junior Katy O'Brien would tie it on the next possession. Brown regained the lead and took a five-point advantage until Becky Brown tied it at 51 following a lay-up. The Bears' Kelly continued to shoot from outside and made yet another three to give the Bears another five-point advantage. The game opened with four points by the Tigers as they led 4-0. At the 14:54 mark Kelly connected on a three-pointer and Brown took a 9-6 lead. The Bears then opened a 25-10 advantage on a 16-4 run highlighted by two threes from Kelly. The Tigers recharged with seven minutes remaining in the game. Becky Brown received a hand-off at the top of the key and saw the lane open. As she drove she was fouled and her continuation cut the Bears lead to 13 following the three-point play. At the 3:44 mark of the first half Princeton trailed 28-14. O'Brien looked to pass the ball inside but got a glimpse of the basket and made her first field goal of the game. On the ensuing play, sophomore Lillie Romeiser made her debut on the stat sheet with a three of her own. The Tigers closed the gap to seven, 29-22. With forty seconds left O'Brien made yet another three with a hand in her face and Umeda made a lay-up at the buzzer to set the score at 29-27 at intermission. Brown led the team with 19 points and eight rebounds. O'Brien had 12 points, four assists and four steals, while Cowher had 11 points and four assists. Princeton travels to New Haven, Conn. for a 7 p.m. contest Saturday night.
