Late Pearce Goal Lifts Women's Hockey to 4-3 Win at Brown

Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton women's hockey team scored twice in the final seven minutes to erase a 3-2 Brown lead and defeat the Bears 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium. Sophomores Dina McCumber and Kim Pearce each posted a goal and assist in the win as the Tigers improved to 11-5-4 overall and 5-4-2 in the ECAC Hockey League.
After a scoreless period in which the Tigers were outshot 14-5, senior Becky Stewart gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead 1:44 into the second period with her third goal of the season. The goal was assisted by freshman Brittany Salmon and came in Stewart's first game back in the lineup after missing the last four games with an injury. Brown evened up the score at 9:48 when Kathryn Moos scored for the Bars but the Tigers were able to add a second goal in the period to take a 2-1 lead to the locker rooms after a period where shots were even at 10 apiece. The go-ahead goal came at 16:48 of the period on the power play when McCumber picked a corner on Brown goaltender O'Hara Shipe. Junior Heather Jackson assisted on the goal.
The third period went back-and-forth with Brown scoring twice to take a 3-2 lead, the Princeton scoring twice to claim the 4-3 win. Brown's goals came within a span of 2:14 around the midpoint of the period. Kerry Nugent and Jessica Link scored the goals.
Brown's lead was shortlived however as sophomore Liz Keady knotted the game up at three at the 13:09 mark for her eighth of the year with an assist by Pearce. Four minutes later, Pearce gave the Tigers the lead when her power play shot beat Shipe. It was her 11th of the season and McCumber drew an assist.
Princeton goaltender Roxanne Gaudiel made 34 saves to improve to 11-5-4 on the season while Shipe stopped 20 in the loss.
Princeton returns to action next Friday night when Clarkson visits Baker Rink.
