Potsdam, N.Y. - Roxanne Gaudiel made 19 saves to record her fifth shutout of the season as the 10th-ranked Princeton women's hockey team defeated Clarkson 3-0 in ECAC Hockey League action Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena. The win was Princeton's 10th of the season.
Princeton improved to 10-5-3 overall and 4-4-1 in the ECACHL. The Tigers are now off for the next three weeks before resuming their season at the end of January at Harvard and Brown.
Princeton dominated play in the first period, out shooting the Knights 14-0. Junior Sarah Butsch gave Princeton the 1-0 lead on Princeton's third shot of the game at the 11:47 mark. Her third goal of the season was assisted by senior April Brown and sophomore Laura Watt. The first period ended with the score 1-0. Princeton made it 2-0 on the power play late in the second period. The goal, which came at 15:06, was scored by junior Tarah Clark. The goal was Clark's second special teams goal in as many nights as she tallied a shorthanded yesterday. Freshman Marykate Oakley and senior Katharine Maglione each assisted on the goal as Princeton enjoyed a 13-8 shot advantage over the second 20 minutes.
The Tigers quickly put up another score in the third period when Watt roofed her own rebound by Kira McDonald. Sophomore Kim Pearce and junior Heather Jackson each picked up assists on the goal.
McDonald made 31 saves for the Golden Knights while Gaudiel stopped all 19 she faced. The Tigers went 1-for-5 on the power play while the Knights were shut down on three opportunities. Clarkson finished trailing in shots by a margin of 34-19.
