Fall Crew Season Opens Saturday At Historic Head Of The Charles

The spring of 2006 promises to be an exciting one for the four Princeton crews, but the actual racing for this academic year begins this Saturday at the historic Head of the Charles in Cambridge, Mass. Each of Princeton's varsity crews will be competing, and all Tiger fans are welcome to the Princeton Alumni Tent in the Reunion Village at the Weeks Footbridge. Just look for the Princeton Oar to find the tent.

Here are the details in brief:
All varsity crews will race in their respective championship divisions. This event includes all D-I varsity crews, as well as national team and international entries for the boat class. All freshman crews will race in the Youth division. This includes all collegiate freshman as well as high school and junior club entries.
By boat:
The heavyweight men's 8 will race in the championship 8+. After a strong finish last year, the men's 8 will be starting third behind Cambridge University and the Dutch National Team.
The open women's 8 will race in the championship 8+. ast year, the Princeton women's varsity won this event, defeating all collegiate competitors, as well as entries from the U.S. and Canadian training centers. Princeton will be starting #1 this year.
The lightweight men's 8 will race in the Lightweight 8+. Last year the team finished fourth overall and was the second collegiate finisher. This year the team will be starting fourth behind New York Athletic Club (comprised of US National Team members), Navy, and Riverside.
The lightweight women's 8 will race in the Lightweight 8+. Last year, Princeton finished seconnd to Riverside (National team athletes). This year, Princeton will be starting second and two of its main rivals (Wisconsin and Radcliffe) will be racing as well. The heavyweight men's 4 will race in the Champ 4+. This year the championship 4 will be starting 5th.
The open men's 4 will race in the Champ 4+. This year the champ 4 will be starting 7th.
The lightweight men's 4+ will race in the Lightweight 4+. Princeton will be starting 8th.
The lightweight women's 4+ will race in the Lightweight 4+. Last year Princeton finished 5th in this event. The Tigers will be starting 5th this year.
The novice women's 8 will race in the Youth 8+. This is the first year Princeton has had an entry in this event. Because of this, the Tigers will start at the back of the pack at # 53, which should make for some exciting racing.
The freshman men's 8 will race in the youth 8+. Last year was Princeton's first year in this event and it finished fourth overall. This year the Tigers will be starting 4th.
The novice women's 4+ will race in the Youth 4+. Princeton won the event last year and will start first this year.
The freshman men's 4 will race in the Youth 4+. Like the novice women's 4+, Princeton won the event last year and starts first this year.
