PRINCETON, N.J. - One day after sending Brown out of Dillon Gymnasium with a sweep, the Princeton women's volleyball team (12-6, 3-4 Ivy) found itself on the wrong end of a quick match as Yale (15-2, 6-1) topped the Tigers, 30-23, 30-20, 30-21. Senior Lauren Grumet led Princeton with 11 kills.
Yale used a solid offensive attack to dictate momentum early in the match and held a lead almost wire-to-wire on the afternoon. In the opening frame, the Bulldogs hit 400, spiking 19 kills on 35 swings with five errors. Meanwhile, Princeton managed just a .122 hitting percentage. Freshman Lindsey Ensign was the Tigers' most accurate hitter in game one, connecting on three of her six attempts with no errors.
The theme of the second game was more of the same from Yale, which hit .361 in game two while holding Princeton to a .128 clip. The top Princeton hitter again had three kills as in the first game, with Grumet and freshman Parker Henritze each reaching that total.
Despite Grumet's five kills in the third game, a Princeton high for any frame on Saturday afternoon, Yale had 20 kills to hit .366 for the stanza. In addition to the display on offense, Yale had the only errorless game from the service line of either team in the match. Princeton had seven aces on the day with four for Yale and also made fewer miscues on serve, giving up four service errors to five for the visitors.
Defensively, sophomore Jenny McReynolds had 16 digs, tied for the game high with Yale's Shannon Farrell. Offensively, Farrell led all hitters with 15 kills. Princeton travels to Harvard to begin the second half of the Ivy League schedule on Friday with a 7 p.m. start in Cambridge, Mass.
