PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton sophomore midfielder Diana Matheson was named the Ivy League's Co-Player of the Week in women's soccer on Monday for her efforts last week in wins over La Salle, 4-0 on Tuesday, and Dartmouth, 2-0 on Sunday. Matheson provided the game-winning goals in each and assisted on the second goal against the Big Green on Sunday.
Matheson is the first Tiger to win an Ivy weekly honor this season and first since Esmeralda Negron was named player of the week twice last year.
Against the Explorers, Matheson's 72nd-minute goal came on Princeton's 22nd shot of the game and broke a scoreless deadlock, starting the team on a four-goal output over the last quarter of the contest. On Sunday, the sophomore's goal came in the 22nd minute before she provided the helper on Emily Behncke's insurance score in the second half.
The goals were the third and fourth of the season for Matheson and the five points in total moved her to 11 on the year, three behind senior Behncke for the team lead.
The two wins lifted the Orange and Black to 3-4-2 on the season and 1-1-0 in the Ivy League. Saturday, Princeton visits Brown for the second contest in a three-match road swing.
