Field Hockey Hosts Hofstra Friday Night

Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton field hockey team hosts Hofstra Friday night at 6 p.m., in the first of two games against non-league opponents. The first-place Tigers resume Ivy League action a week from Saturday at Brown.
The game rounds out a five-game homestand for Princeton. The Tigers have played to a 3-1 record in the span and are 4-3 at home this season. After Friday night's game, the Tigers will have one last home game on Oct. 25 against Rutgers.
Last weekend Princeton split its games for the third time this season. On Friday night, the Tigers improved to 4-0 in the Ivy League with a 2-1 win over Cornell. Sophomore Paige Schmidt scored both Tiger goals in the win. Two days later, the Tigers hosted No. 15 Villanova and dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision. Senior Hillary Schmidt and freshman Katie Kinzer scored the Princeton goals.
The Tigers record now stands at 5-5 overall and 4-0 in Ivy League competition. The 4-0 record is tops in the league. Princeton has league games remaining at Brown, Harvard and Penn. Cornell, at 3-1, is second, with Harvard and Brown tied for third with records of 1-1. Princeton's next league game is a week from Saturday at Brown. There are two league games this weekend. Dartmouth visits Yale on Saturday and Harvard travels to Cornell in an important league matchup on Sunday.
The Tigers' meeting with Hofstra on Friday will be the first meeting between the two opponents. The Pride will be Princeton's third new opponent of the season. The Tigers are 1-1 thus far in those games, beating Albany 3-0 and falling to Villanova 3-2. Princeton is 43-21-3 all-time in series openers.
Hofstra is 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association and was one of the teams receiving votes in the latest NFHCA Poll. Last weekend the Pride fell to Northeasern and defeated Drexel. Hofstra also has recent wins over Delaware, Syracuse and Fairfield. Pemba Ramdoo leads Hofstra with eight goals and 19 points. Paige Schmidt scored both of Princeton's goals in Friday's 2-1 win over Cornell. Both goals came on penalty corners with her sister, senior Hillary, assisting on the first goal. Junior goalkeeper Allison Nemeth made two saves in the win. On Sunday, Hillary Schmidt and Katie Kinzer scored the goals, with Holly McGarvie garnering her first career point, an assist, on Kinzer's goal. Nemeth made five saves in the game.
Princeton plays its first of four games away from home on Tuesday night at second-ranked Maryland.
