PRINCETON - Princeton's Jenny McReynolds nearly broke an NCAA record Saturday night in leading Princeton to a 3-1 win at Dartmouth. Her performance earned her the Ivy League Player of the Week honor and gave Princeton a double this weekend, since Parker Henritze earned her league-high third Rookie of the Week honor.
McReynolds, a junior, had a match-high 16 digs in Princeton's home victory against Dartmouth on Oct. 7. Apparently, she was only getting warmed up against the Big Green, who watched her record an Ivy League record 54 digs in Princeton's 3-1 in Hanover last weekend.
McReynolds added a match-high 28 digs in a 3-1 win over Harvard on Friday to average an astounding 10.25 digs per game over the weekend. According to current NCAA records, the 54 digs against Dartmouth are the second-most in a four-game match in NCAA history and the most since UMKC's Catalina Suarez posted 56 against UTEP in 1989. According to the AVCA, the 54 digs in a match are the best in the NCAA this year. McReynolds currently leads the League in digs per game at 6.48, or 1.5 digs per game better than second-place Anja Perlebach of Yale.
Henritze joins McReynolds as an Ivy honoree, although this is her third time with the award. She averaged 5.9 kills per game and 2.1 digs per game as the Tigers defeated Harvard and Dartmouth this past weekend. Overall, she registered 47 kills, including 25 against Harvard, 17 digs, seven aces and two blocks on the weekend. Henritze is currently second in the League with an average of 4.69 kills per game and first with 0.62 aces per game.
Princeton will compete at Yale and Brown this weekend before returning home on Nov. 11 for a match with Columbia. Senior day will be the following day, when Princeton takes on Ivy frontrunner Cornell at 4 p.m.
