Box Score
Kim Pearce scored an unassisted goal 1:04 into the third period and assisted on Laura Watt's second-period power play goal and Roxanne Gaudiel made 12 third-period saves as the Princeton women's hockey team hung on for a 2-1 victory over Clarkson in an ECAC Hockey League game played at Baker Rink Friday night.
Pearce stole the puck near the Clarkson blue line and scored past goalie Kira Hurley early in the third period to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead, but No. 9 Clarkson (9-3-1, 4-1 ECACHL) made it tight in the final minutes. The Golden Knights got a shorthanded goal from Lindsay Williams with less than five minutes left, then peppered the Princeton net after that, but Gaudiel made sure Clarkson didn't get the equalizer.
Princeton's Dina McCumber was called for a cross-checking penalty with 18 seconds left in the game, but the No. 8 Tigers (4-2-1, 2-1 ECACHL) won the ensuing faceoff and cleared the puck out of their own zone to ice the game.
The Tigers outshot Clarkson 21-8 in the first two periods and finally broke through past Hurley with 2:22 left in the second period on the power play. The Clarkson goalie made an initial save on an Annie Greenwood close-in opportunity, but Watt shoved the rebound into the goal for her second goal of the season.
Hurley had 23 saves overall for the Knights, while Gaudiel had 20 saves for Princeton to earn her fourth win of the season. Pearce's early third-period goal was her third of the season. She leads the Tigers with eight points through seven games.
Princeton hosts top-ranked St. Lawrence Saturday afternoon at Baker Rink.
