PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton women's hockey continues its season-long 10-game homestand tonight when travel-partner Quinnipiac visits Baker Rink for a 7 p.m. face-off. Princeton enters the weekend winners of three-straight and will look to continue that streak with the holiday break in sight.
Gametracker live stats will be available for the games. The link can be found on the Princeton women's hockey schedule page.
The Tigers (7-3-2, 4-1-1 t-3rd ECACHL) enter the weekend series ranked seventh in the USCHO poll, the same spot they were last week. Princeton looks to maintain its No. 6 ranking in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll when it is released later on Tuesday.
The Tigers enter tonight's game following their first weekend sweep of the season. Princeton scored a combined 13 goals in big wins over Cornell and Colgate. On Friday night, goaltenders Roxanne Gaudiel and Kristen Young combined to blank the Big Red, while junior Kim Pearce, this week's ECACHL Player of the Week assisted on six of Princeton's seven goals in a 7-0 win. A day later, freshman Annie Greenwood scored four goals in a 6-2 win against Colgate, snapping a streak of back-to-back ties between Princeton and Colgate.
Princeton has just four games remaining on its season-long 10-game homestand. Princeton is 4-1-1 in the first six games and will play its next three games over the next five days. After tonight's meeting with Quinnipiac, the Tigers host Wayne State on Friday and Saturday afternoons at 3 p.m. The final game of the homestand comes after Princeton's holiday break, on Jan. 2 against Providence. After five-straight one-goal or tied games, the Tiger offense distanced itself from its opponents this weekend, with a seven-goal win on Friday and a four-goal win on Saturday. Thirteen different Tigers recorded points on the weekend, led by Pearce's seven. Greenwood was next with five while sophomore Brittany Salmon and Marykate Oakley each had four. Freshman Christine Foster scored her first collegiate goal in the Cornell win.
With the sweep Princeton claimed a league weekly award for the third-straight weekend as Pearce was named the ECACHL Player of the Week for the second time this year. Greenwood and Gaudiel, who both have weekly awards to their credit this season, were named to the league's honor roll.
Princeton is 1-0-0 all-time against Quinnipiac and that win came during the 2001-02 season at Baker Rink. Princeton won that game 3-0 after outshooting Quinnipiac 37-4. Princeton alums Melissa Deland, Gretchen Anderson and Aviva Grumet-Morris scored the goals and Sarah Ahlquist recorded the shutout.
Quinnipiac (6-8-3, 2-5-2 6th ECACHL) enters the weekend after tying Colgate and losing to Cornell. The Bobcats scored just once last weekend in their 1-1 tie with the Raiders. They lost to Cornell 1-0. Both of Quinnipiac's league wins have come against Union, and they have non-conference wins against Northeastern, Connecticut, Boston College and Vermont.
Princeton continues its homestand on Friday afternoon against Wayne State at 3 p.m.
