NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Princeton women's track team won five events and had strong performances in several others as the Tigers edged host Yale to win the annual Harvard-Yale-Princeton indoor track meet at the newly dedicated Frank Shorter Track Saturday afternoon.
Princeton finished with 75 points, outdistancing Yale, which finished with 65, and Harvard, which trailed with 19 points. The Tigers showed versatility as a team Saturday, winning in the sprints, the long-distance races and in the field events.
The day started with a win by Chanel Lattimer in the 60-meter dash. Lattimer finished second behind Yale's Joslyn Woodard in the prelims but turned the tide in the final, finishing in 7.68 seconds to edge Woodard by just .02.
Princeton's strong distance core then took over. All-America Cack Ferrell won the mile in 4:41.10 and led four Tiger runners in the top five in that race. In the 3,000 meters, Princeton took all 11 available points. Meredith Lambert dominated to win in 9:44.16, while Mia Swenson was second in 9:51.27. Caroline Mullen and Marian Bihrle finished third and fourth, respectively. The Tigers also earned a victory in the 20-lb. weight throw, where Laura Okpala had a throw of 14.36 meters to easily edge Yale's Margo Angelopoulos.
The Tigers run in the Princeton Invitational next weekend before heading to Indoor Heps at Harvard in two weeks.
