Women's Basketball Rallies Past Yale

PRINCETON, N.J.-- Juniors Katy O'Brien and Lauren Nestor record double-doubles as Princeton's women's basketball team wins 75-49 over Yale in Jadwin Gym, Friday night. The Tigers improve to 11-10 on the season and 3-5 in the conference, while the Bulldogs fall to 4-18 overall and 1-8 in the Ivies.
O'Brien recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 assists, while Nestor collected 11 rebounds and scored 14 points in the contest. Princeton has tallied five double-doubles on the season.
The Tigers shot 19-21 from the charity stripe, with both misses coming in the second half. Princeton was a perfect 11-11 with 11 minutes to play in the game. Freshman Ariel Rogers took a team-high eight free throws, netting seven, Princeton established an inside game early in the contest, as junior Becky Brown scored 10 points 10 minutes into the opening of the game. The Tigers led 19-15 with 10:22 left in the first period.
Brown, looking for two more points, loss the ball in the air and junior Ali Smith recovered the ball and earned a layup to put Princeton up 25-18. Smith added another two points with two made free throws with 5:27 remaining in the first half and gave the Tigers a 29-21 lead.
With the shot clock winding down and a defender in her face, O'Brien made her second three of the night and increased Princeton's lead to 14 with just over a minute on the gameclock. A late basket by Yale's Morgan Richards tallied a 37-25 count at intermission.
The second half was a continuation of the previous period, as Brown grabbed a defensive rebound and was rewarded with the basket on the opposite end to open scoring in the second half.
Erica Davis made two free throws for the Bulldogs and cut the Tiger lead to eight at the 17:43 mark. Two offensive possessions later, Princeton was back up 13 as sophomore Casey Lockwood nailed her first three of the season, 44-31.
Rogers connected on two more free throws for the Tigers and capped off a 10-0 run with 14:17 remaining in the game. Rogers improved upon her career-night last game with 13 points all in her 14 second-half minutes tonight.
Yale's Tory Mauseth made a basket from downtown to end a four-minute scoring drought for the Bulldogs. However, Princeton answered with a 12-6 run over the next four minutes and led 61-37 after a lay-up from Rogers.
Freshman Ali Prichard gave Princeton a 66-41 lead with a three-pointer at the 8:15 mark. O'Brien earned her 10th assist of the night after she sailed a pass to Lockwood following a backdoor cut and jumped out to a 28-point lead, 73-45. O'Brien has 93 assists on the season as is 12 shy of entering Princeton's Top 10 all-time list in assists.
Brown scored a game-high 20 points in 22 minutes of action.
The Tigers out-rebounded the Bulldogs 42-35, while limiting Yale to 28% shooting in the game.
Princeton hosts Brown at 7 p.m. in Jadwin Gym, Saturday night.
