PRINCETON - The Princeton women's squash team ended the first Howe Cup championship ever played in the Jadwin Squash Courts exactly as it began - the No. 4 team. The Tigers could not overcome No. 1 Yale or No. 3 Trinity this weekend and will end a solid season fourth overall.
Princeton fell 8-1 to Yale on Saturday, with only No. 6 Margaret Kent taking a 9-6, 10-8, 9-0 victory over Lauren Doline. Princeton No. 1 player Claire Rein-Weston fell to the top player in the nation, Michelle Quibell, in three games, but twice she forced a 10-8 decision. That type of result could be a sign of success during the national individual championships, which will take place in two weeks.
Princeton fell to Trinity 6-3 on Sunday. Kent maintained her perfect Howe Cup record with a 3-0 victory over Fernanda Rocha. Kent dropped only six points in the entire match and showed the potential to be one of Princeton's top big-match players for the next three seasons. Sophomore Anina Nolan won 3-0 at No. 8, while senior co-captain Tricia Gadsden closed out a tremendous home career with a 3-1 win at No. 9. Fellow co-captain Franny McKay played at No. 10 and also pulled out a victory for Princeton. While the future looks bright for Princeton, the loss of those two co-captains will be a significant one in terms of team leadership. Semifinal: Yale 8, Princeton 1
