Philadelphia, Pa. -- Sophomore Casey Lockwood scored a season-high 14 points, but poor free throw shooting from the Tigers made the difference as Princeton dropped a 58-50 decision to Penn, Tuesday night in the Palestra. The Tigers fall to 12-11 on the season and 4-6 in the Ivy League, while Penn claims the fourth spot in the Ivy League with a 13-10 overall record and 6-4 in the conference. Junior Becky Brown finished with 12 points on the night and freshman Ariel Rogers grabbed a career-high eight rebounds.
Princeton went on 13-3 run to open the second stanza and led 36-27 with 15:12 to go in the game. Following two-scoring droughts by both teams Penn rallied an 11-2 run and tied the game at 38 with a layup from Karen Habrukowich. The Tigers went 0-9 from the foul line in the first 30 minutes of the game before Rogers made two from the charity stripe and gave Princeton a 43-41 lead with 8:32 left to play. The game remained close until the Quakers opened a five-point lead 51-46 thanks to a three-pointer by Joey Rhoads with 3:35 remaining in regulation. Brown cut the lead to three, 53-50 after netting two foul shots with 1:18 on the clock, but Princeton didn't get another field goal the rest of the game.
The Quakers jumped out to a 10-2 lead to open the game. Freshman Ali Prichard nailed her first shot of the game with a three-pointer inside an 8-2 run by Princeton and made it a two-point game 12-10. Sophomore Casey Lockwood gave the Tigers took their first lead of the game with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half, 16-15. Penn regained the lead, 19-17 with 4:43 left in the first period. At the half the Tigers trailed 24-23. Princeton hosts Columbia at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 in Jadwin Gym.
