SAN JOSE, Calif. - Junior Cristina Cobb-Adams earned two runs and two RBIs, as the Tigers split a doubleheader against Colorado State on Wednesday at San Jose State's Softball Field. Princeton won the first game 6-3 before falling 6-1 in the second match. The Tigers' record stands at 11-5, while the Rams are 16-10 on the season. In the first game Princeton's surge in the second inning led to the win. Down two outs and bases loaded Cobb-Adams stepped to the plate with an opportunity to make something happen. Cobbs-Adams hit a double to center field and earned two RBIs as both freshman Beth Dalmut and senior Ty Ries crossed home plate.
The Tigers sixth run was scored in the third inning as Ries hit a double in the gap between center and right field that advanced Dalmut home. Dalmut got on base with a double to center field that fell just short of the fence. The Rams mounted a three-run comeback in the fifth inning, following five hits. Brittany Burtner tallied the first RBI with a triple to right field and sent home Brittany Huerta. Stephanie Roberts followed with a single to left field and Burtner made her way home. Genevieve Kelly's single down the middle brought in Roberts. Ries tallied nine putouts and two assists in the game. Junior Erin Snyder improved to 5-2 on the season at pitcher allowing seven hits and three runs. Snyder recorded 11 strikeouts, while Strickland took the loss for the Rams with six runs and seven hits in 2.1 innings. In the second game, the Rams got on the scoreboard first with a single to short stop from Kerry Farrell that sent Jessica Strickland home. With two outs in the first inning, Strickland got on base due to an error in right field. Colorado State, then, rattled off three more runs in the fourth inning as Strickland, Farrell, and Huerta scored. Huerta got on base as Cobb-Adams tried to make a play at second, but was a step off allowing Farrell to score. Burtner's double on the next bat scored Huerta. Princeton's lone run of the game was also recorded in the fourth inning, as senior Melissa Finley's sharp shot to center field allowed Cobb-Adams to score. Cobb-Adams got on base with a fly ball that dropped behind second base. The Tigers trailed 4-1 into the fifth inning. In the seventh inning the Rams secured the win with a single from Strickland that drove Roberts and Lauren Cusick home. Freshman Kristen Schaus (4-2) took the loss at pitcher, while Genevieve Kelly recorded the win for the Rams. Princeton travels to Stockton, Calif. on Friday, March 18, as they play Pacific in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
