STOCKTON, Calif. -- Sophomore Tiffany Andras garnered an RBI and makes a game-saving catch to lead the Tigers to two wins over Pacific. Princeton won both games 1-0 and improved to 13-5, while the Tigers of Pacific drop to 13-11 on the season. In the top of the third inning the Tigers tallied their first and only run of the game, as Andras picked up her third RBI of the season with a single that dropped behind second base and scored senior Ty Ries. Ries was the lead off batter and advanced to base after being walked by Alyce Jorgensen of Pacific. Junior Cristina Cobb-Adams sacrifice bunt moved Ries to second, while an error by the catcher put junior Lindsay Motal on base and Ries at third. A double play in the second inning was evident of how hard Princeton's defense was going to work during the day to keep Pacific scoreless. After an error at short stop put Pacific's Brittany Hyams on base, Brandi Gordon lined a sharp shot back to junior Erin Snyder on the mound. Snyder's quick reaction made the catch and then immediately threw out Hyams at first. With two outs in the bottom of the third Princeton held off Pacific's strongest chance to score. Gordon stepped to the plate with Crystal Presson at second. Gordon, then, hit a line to right field where freshman Beth Dalmut was able to quickly field it. Dalmut fired the ball to Ries at home, who gunned out Presson at the plate.
Snyder improved to 6-2 on the mound and recorded eight strikeouts, four hits and one walk in the shutout. Jorgensen (5-4) took the loss for Pacific and had four strikeouts, four hits and two walks. In the second game Princeton's defense continued to play strong. With runners on the corners in the second inning freshman Kristen Schaus struck out two batters, one looking and one swinging. Senior Melissa Finley stepped to the plate 0-5 on the day in the sixth inning and recorded her team-leading fourth homerun of the season for the one run in the second game. In the bottom of the seventh inning Pacific threatened as they had Gordon on second base in position to score, but Pacific's Lindsay Garehime went down as the second out with three pitches and the strikeout. Next to bat was Gina Carbonatto who hit a fly ball down the first base line. Andras gave chase to it and made the catch to end the game and secure the one-run win for Princeton. Schaus (5-2) earned the win with 11 strikeouts and five hits, while Natalie King took the loss with five hits, three strikeouts and one run. Tomorrow Princeton will meet Utah at 11 a.m. before taking on third-ranked Stanford at 3 p.m.
