PALO ALTO, Calif. - Sophomore Tiffany Wilson scored her first run of season and ensured a 2-0 win over third-ranked Stanford at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium on Sunday. Princeton improved to 14-6 on the season, while the Cardinals fall to 18-3.
Princeton netted its first score in the first inning as senior Melissa Finley's double to center field scored junior Cristina Cobb-Adams. Cobb-Adams got on base following a single that trickled down the first base line.
Wilson recorded her first run of the season as junior Amanda Erickson hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field. Wilson was the pinch runner for junior Lindsay Motal who was walked earlier by Lauren Nydam of Stanford.
Junior Erin Snyder's pitching and the strong defensive efforts by Princeton kept the game a shutout. Snyder (7-3) tallied two hits and five strikeouts in the win. The Tigers held the Cardinals to three innings where they went three up and three down.
In the fourth inning senior Ty Ries garnered the second out as she fired a strike from Snyder to Cobb-Adams at second to catch a runner trying to steal. Later, Cobb-Adams made a backhanded catch on a high, lined drive to record the second out in the seventh inning.
Princeton heads north to New Brunswick, N.J. on Thursday, March 24 to play a doubleheader against Rutgers at 2 p.m.
