New Haven, Conn. - The Princeton women's hockey team dropped a penalty-filled game against Yale, 4-2, Saturday afternoon in the second game of the ECAC Hockey League quarterfinal series at Yale's Ingalls Rink. The loss eliminates the Tigers from the ECACHL postseason as the Tigers finished the season with a record of 16-10-5 overall.
After a scoreless first period, Yale jumped ahead on the only goal of the second period when Kristin Savard scored just past the midway point of the period. Yale held the 1-0 lead through the end of the period and took it into the second intermission.
Both teams broke out offensively in the third as they combined for five third-period goals. Princeton knotted the score at 1-1 on the power play 1:14 into the period when sophomore Dina McCumber scored unassisted. The tie was shortlived however, as Yale's Nicole Symington scored 44 seconds later to reclaim the lead for Yale.
The Bulldogs made it 3-1 at 15:13 on a shorthanded goal from Sheila Zeiler, but the Tigers closed the lead back to one goal immediately as junior Heather Jackson scored on the power play seven seconds later.
Princeton tired to get even late, but Zeiler's second goal of the game into the open Tiger net sealed the 4-2 win for the Bulldogs.
Yale's Sarah Love made 28 saves, while Princeton junior Roxanne Gaudiel stopped 26 shots. The two teams combined for 22 penalties in the game.
Princeton completes the season at 16-10-5.
