REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - The Princeton women's lightweight crew went 2-1 at the Windermere Classic this weekend, which included Sunday's 14-second victory over Stanford. The Tigers defeated California and Stanford, but they fell to defending IRA champion in Saturday's afternoon race.
The Tigers opened the weekend with a comfortable win over California. Princeton came in at 6:59.91, while California finished in 7:27.75.
The highlight of the women's lightweight races came Saturday afternoon when the last six IRA champions met. Princeton, which has won the five previous to 2004, came in at 7:18.86, but 2004 champion Wisconsin took the race in 7:15.72. The Badgers gained the advantage in the second 500 meters, erasing a slim deficit and opening more than a two-second lead.
Princeton came back with a win against Stanford on Sunday, coming in at 6:49.09, while Stanford finished in 7:03.43.
Princeton will compete for the Knecht Cup next weekend; the Tigers won this event in 2004.
