PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior Erin Snyder pitched the second perfect game of her career in game one and earned the RBI that tied game two to lead the Princeton softball team to a sweep over Dartmouth at the Class of 1895 Field, this afternoon. Snyder was 3-6 from the plate and tallied four RBI on the day, while senior Melissa Finley was 4-4 at bat and scored three runs in game two. The Tigers improve to 28-13 on the season and 8-2 in the Ivy race, while the Big Green fall to 8-16-1 and 5-6 in conference play.
In the first game Dartmouth was unable to get on base, as Snyder contained the Big Green by striking out 16 of the 21 batters she faced. Snyder became the second Tiger to record two perfect games in her career and the first in the same season. Brianne M. Galicinao tallied two perfect games back on April 14, 2000 and April 28, 2001. Snyder posted her first perfect game after she blanked Fairfield, 8-0, back on March 29.
Princeton got on the board in the first inning after Karin Edwardson of Dartmouth threw a wild pitch to Finley, allowing junior Cristina Cobb-Adams to run in for the score. Cobb-Adams hit a lead off double to advance to base.
Later in the bottom of the fourth, senior Ty Ries hit a double to left field that drove in sophomore Stephanie Steel from first base. Princeton took a 2-0 lead at the end of four innings. The Tigers rounded out scoring with three runs off two hits in the fifth inning. Junior Amanda Erickson lined a double to left field, with both Cobb-Adams and freshman Lauren Bierman on base to earn two RBI. Snyder followed with a double of her own and sent Erickson home for the fifth and final run.
Snyder (13-3) posted her seventh shutout of the season, while Edwardson took the loss for the Big Green after she allowed five runs off seven hits in six innings.
Princeton trailed twice in game two, but rallied to knot the score at three apiece in the bottom of the sixth with a double by Snyder. Finley was on second base since she lined a double past the short stop and Wilson sat on first after taking over on base for Erickson, who reached due to a throwing error by the third baseman. With the stage set and one out, Snyder drove a double out to right field to score the tying run.
Snyder was at bat in the eighth inning with two runners on, again, but this time Dartmouth's pitcher Angela Megaw misfired and Finley was able to squeeze in for the winning run on a wild pitch.
Finley scored the first run of the game after sliding across home plate to avoid being caught by the short stop making a play on Snyder's shot up the middle.
Freshman Kristen Schaus posted a no-hitter till the fourth inning when Kerry Conway of Dartmouth hit a home run to deep center field for the first hit of the day by the Big Green. Later in the sixth, Dartmouth took a 3-1 lead following a homer by Kelly Fry with a runner on.
Schaus (11-6) fanned 15 batters and allowed three runs off four hits, while Megaw (2-5) allowed four runs off eights hits in the loss.
Princeton will travel to East Orange, N.J. for a midweek doubleheader against Seton Hall on Wednesday, April 20.
