Tigers Advance to ECAC Championship Game in Women's Water Polo

Lewisburg, Pa. - The 16th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team went 2-0 on the opening day of the 2005 ECAC Championships at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium. Danielle Carlson and Jazmin Brown each had five goals on the day as the Tigers defeated Villanova and Harvard. Princeton meets Hartwick in the championship game tomorrow afternoon.
Princeton (20-7) opened the day with a 14-5 win over Villanova. The Tiger offense was led by Carlson's three goals. Brown, Kathryn Parolin and Samanta Shaughnessy all added two goals in the Princeton effort. Madelin McCarthy made eight saves in the Princeton cage.

The win moved Princeton into a semifinal matchup against Harvard, which had beaten Wagner earlier in the day. The game was a defensive battle for the first half until the Tigers pulled away in the third quarter. Princeton led 3-1 at the half and extended the lead to 6-1 with a three-goal third quarter. Brown led the way with three goals while Carlson added a pair. Elyse Colgan and Shaugnessy each added an additional tally. Natalie Kim made nine saves in the game.

The win put Princeton, the tournament's second seed, into Sunday's championship game at 1:30 p.m., against the tournament's top seed and the nation's 15th-ranked team, Hartwick.
