Softball Sets For Final Ivy Test Of The 2005 Season

PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior co-captain Ty Ries and the Princeton softball team travel to Yale and Brown this weekend in the final Ivy test of the regular-season. The Tigers face the Bulldogs on Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m. in New Haven, Conn., before heading to Providence, R.I. to take on the Bears at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 24. Princeton leads the Ivy League with an 8-2 record and is 29-14 overall.
Ries, currently, holds a six-game hitting streak and a .993 fielding percentage off 414 chances, while junior Cristina Cobb-Adams leads the team from the plate with a .341 batting average and 46 hits this season.
Co-captain Melissa Finley has posted 22 RBI on the year and needs only two more to eclipse Tara L. Pignoli's (1992-95) third-place position in the career RBI leaders category with 119.
Junior Erin Snyder has earned the league's Pitcher of the Week accolade five times and leads the league from the circle with a .72 era. Both Snyder and freshman Kristen Schaus have dominated the strikeout totals, fanning 179 batters apiece. The duo has also posted 12 shutouts this season.
Yale split a non-conference doubleheader against Hartford in a midweek showdown. The Elis won the opening game, 6-5, but fell 3-2 in the nightcap. Yale is 13-23 overall and 2-6 in the conference. Chelsea Kanyer has a .330 batting average on the season and 12 team-leading RBI, while Peggy Hunt (7-9) leads the pitching corps with seven wins and 85 strikeouts.
Brown defeated Connecticut, 3-2 in a single game on Thursday. The Bears are 10-14-1 overall and 2-6 in the conference. Courtney Jenkins holds a .338 batting average and a team-leading three homers, while Uchenna Omokaro (7-6) leads from the mound with a 1.43 era and 64 strikeouts. Last season Princeton split with Yale, falling 1-0 in the first game, but winning 5-3 in the second. The Tigers swept Brown, 2-1 and 1-0, the day before at home.
