When it comes to winning, the Princeton women's lacrosse Class of 2005 is the most dominant in the history of the program. So it makes sense that the Tigers fashioned a most dominating performance in that group's final regular-season home game.
Lindsey Biles and Ingrid Goldberg, two of the six members of that class, combined for seven goals and three assists to lead No. 4 Princeton to a 17-5 victory over Brown on a rainy Senior Day at Class of 1952 Stadium.
"It was a little sad knowing that it's almost over," said Goldberg, who had two goals and three assists to give her 20 goals and 13 assists on the season, "but it was a great game for us and that makes it a lot better. Our attack did a nice job the entire game."
The Class of 2005 improved its record to 66-9 (88%) in four years and ended its Ivy League career with 26 wins in 28 league games. Biles and Goldberg, along with fellow seniors Jennifer Austin, Sarah Kolodner, Elizabeth Pillion and Leigh Slonaker, were honored in a ceremony prior to the game.
"It was a great way to go out for our seniors," said Princeton head coach Chris Sailer. "They've certainly accomplished a lot and did a great job today. In general, our attack did a great job of finding open people." Princeton (12-3, 6-1 Ivy) had assists on nine of its 17 goals, including six assists on its 10 second-half goals. The Tigers, who led 6-1 at halftime, forced the running clock that comes with a 10-goal lead for the second straight game when Biles scored the fourth of her five goals to give Princeton an 11-1 lead with 22 minutes left.
The Tigers' defense limited Brown to just 14 shots for the game and four in the first half. The Bears (3-10, 1-5 Ivy) didn't score until 3:11 remained in the first half and were held scoreless for the first 13:11 of the second half until Ashley Holden scored with 16:49 left.
Biles, whose five goals gave her 168 for her career and 48 for the season, moved into third place all-time at Princeton alone with 210 career points. Princeton also got four late-game goals from sophomore Alex Gangler, including three in the final 1:51.
Amie Biros and Sarah Passano each scored twice for Brown, which lost to Princeton for the 15th consecutive time.
Princeton outshot the Bears 41-14, but Brown goalie Julia Southard had 12 saves. The Tigers played all three of their goalies, with Colleen O'Boyle replacing the senior Kolodner midway through the second half and Meg Murray entering for the final eight minutes.
Kathleen Miller added two goals and two assists for Princeton, which outscored two opponents 33-8 in two wins this week. The Tigers finished an Ivy League season with one loss or fewer for the 13th straight season.
