PHILADELPHIA, PA- Junior Lindsay Motal's lead off home run in the first inning wasn't enough, as the Tigers fell 2-1 to Temple on Temple University's Ampler Field on Wednesday. Princeton's record drops to 19-8 on the season, while the Owls improve to 11-18 overall.
Motal took three pitches from Temple's Richelle Villescas before she sent her fourth homer of the season over the left-centerfield wall and put the Tigers ahead 1-0 in the game. The Owls responded with a home run of their own in the bottom of the second to knot the game at one.
Princeton threatened to score in the sixth inning with two runners on base. Sophomore Tiffany Andras got on base with a single to right field and junior Cristina Cobb-Adams advanced with a hard shot, that bounced past Temple's short stop. Sophomore Tiffany Wilson, who was pinch running for Andras, awaited a hit to score the tying run from third base due to a sacrifice bunt by Motal. Down two outs, junior Erin Snyder hit the ball hard to left field, but the short stop made a great move on the ball to make the catch and hold off the Tigers.
Temple's secured the winning run of the game in the fourth inning, as Adrienne Repsher hit a lined double to left field scoring Amanda Carver.
Princeton was faced with the same scenario from the fourth inning in the bottom of the sixth with Carver on second and Repsher at bat with two outs, but this time Repsher hit a shot to right field that Andras picked out of the air to keep the Owls from scoring, again. Sophomore Calli Varner (2-1), who allowed four hits and one earned run, dropped her first game of the season. Villescas improved to 10-10 for Temple and allowed five hits and one run.
The Tigers host a doubleheader against Lehigh on Thursday, April 7, beginning at 3 p.m.
