East Lansing, Mich. - The Princeton women's golf team shot rounds of 311, 301 and 305 to finish with a three-round 917 and place eighth at the Mary Fossum Invitational this weekend at the Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. Junior Sharla Cloutier led Princeton's individual finishers in a tie for eighth with a six-over 222 for the tournament.
The host school, Michigan State, won the team title with a three-round 889. The Spartans were the only competitor to shoot below 300 in all three rounds. Southern Methodist, Northwestern, Kent State and Toledo completed the top five in the 15-school competition. Princeton, in eighth, finished ahead of Illinois State, Wisconsin, Iowa State, Iowa, Illinois and Indiana.
Cloutier +6 came after rounds of 74, 76 and 72. She finished two strokes behind the first-place tie at two-over par. Freshman Marlowe Boukis tied for 13th at +9 with rounds at 74, 75 and 76. Her 225 was one stroke better than classmate Susannah Aboff who fored back-to-back 74s after an opening round of 78.
Sophomore Annika Welander shot rounds of 85, 76 and 83 to finish 70th with a 244 and sophomore Annika Windon tied for 75th with rounds of 86, 82 and 83 for a three-round 251.
The Tigers host the Princeton Invitational this weekend.
