Paige Schmidt scored an unassisted goal on a backhand drive early in the second half and assisted on Sarah Yuki's goal midway through the first half to help the Princeton field hockey team to a 3-0 win over Albany in a non-conference game played at Class of 1952 Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Schmidt's goal came off a free hit situation 1:34 into the second half. She worked her way past the Albany defense and snapped a backhanded attempt into the right-hand corner of the goal. Her assist came after a Princeton penalty corner, when her pass from the top of the circle found Yuki, who redirected the ball past goalkeeper Ashley Ross at the 21:16 mark.
Princeton (4-4) also got a first-half goal from freshman Kristin Schwab, a goal that also came as a result of a penalty-corner situation. Hillary Schmidt collected a loose ball near the left post and fed the ball across the goal mouth to Schwab, who scored into an open net 7:14 into the game.
The Tigers outshot Albany (4-6) 12-1, including 6-0 in the decisive first half. The Great Danes' only shot came from Michelle Polizois on a penalty-corner situation early in the second half.
The win was Princeton's third by shutout in its last four games. The Tigers defeated Columbia Saturday by the same 3-0 score and Dartmouth last weekend by a 4-0 score.
Ross made three saves for the Great Danes, who lost their third straight game.
Princeton hosts Cornell Friday night at Class of 1952 Stadium (6 p.m.) in a matchup of the only remaining undefeated teams in Ivy League play. Both the Tigers and Big Red will be 3-0 in league play heading into that game.
