PRINCETON - The eighth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team returns from a 17-day layoff on Tuesday night with a league game at Quinnipiac. Princeton defeated the Bobcats 2-1 earlier this season and will look to start the stretch run to the ECACHL playoffs with a win on Tuesday night.
Gametracker livestats will be available for the game. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
The Tigers (11-5-4, 7-2-2 ECACHL) are ranked eighth in both national polls. Princeton fell to a tie for fourth-place in the ECACHL standings with Harvard after sitting idle for the last two weekends. Brown currently sits first overall with a three-point lead over Princeton, although the Bears have played in two more games than the Tigers. North Country travel partners Clarkson and St. Lawrence are tied for second with a two-point edge over the Tigers with a single game in hand. Princeton visits St. Lawrence and Clarkson this coming weekend following its midweek game at Quinnipiac.
The last weekend that Princeton played was Jan. 13 and 14 when the Tigers earned a road sweep at Colgate and Cornell. On Friday at Colgate, senior Sarah Butsch snapped a 1-1 tie to lift Princeton to a 2-1 win. A day later, she scored Princeton's third goal, also a game winner, in a 5-2 win at Cornell. Freshman Annie Greenwood scored twice in the win.
Butsch has scored goals in each of the past four games and was named the ECACHL's Player of the Week following the Colgate/Cornell sweep. It was the second season in a row in which Butsch was named the league's player of the week following the trip to Central New York.
Tuesday's game at Quinnipiac is the fifth in a seven-game stretch away from Baker Rink for the Tigers, who next play at home on Feb. 10. Remaining in that span is the game at Quinnipiac and a trip to St. Lawrence and Clarkson before returning home to face Ivy-rivals Harvard and Dartmouth. Princeton is 2-0-0 all-time against Quinnipiac, winning twice at Baker Rink, 3-0 in the 2001-02 season and 2-1 earlier this season. In that game, junior Laura Watt snapped a 1-1 tie with her goal midway through the third period.
Quinnipiac is 9-12-4 overall and 3-8-2 in the ECACHL. The Bobcats were idle last weekend and last played Jan. 20-21 when they swept Robert Morris in non-league action at home. The following weekend the split, topping Cornell and falling to Colgate. Quinnipiac has won three of four entering Tuesday meeting with Princeton.
This weekend Princeton completes it seven-game road stretch at St. Lawrence and Clarkson.
