Junior McReynolds Claims National Digs Title By Slimmest Of Margins
January 05, 2006 | Women's Volleyball
PRINCETON - Princeton women's volleyball coach Glenn Nelson was thrilled to bring Jenny McReynolds into the program three years ago. The veteran coach knew that McReynolds could develop into the type of libero that could be the centerpiece to his entire defense. She filled that role perfectly, and she recently picked up the 2005 NCAA Digs per Game title to complete a spectacular junior season.
McReynolds, a 2005 first-team All-Ivy selection, averaged 6.83 digs per game this season. That amount was just enough to edge out Debora Seilhamer of Southern California, who averaged 6.82 digs per game.
The critical performance in her award-winning season came at Dartmouth, when McReynolds nearly set an NCAA record with 54 digs in a 3-1 win over the Big Green. She would go on to be named the Ivy League Player of the Week after that performance.
McReynolds, a three-year starter at libero, will likely be the lone starting senior for the 2006 team, which will carry plenty of young talent into another exciting Ivy League race.
