Princeton enters the weekend having dropped its past two games, both coming to top-10 opponents. Last Saturday the Tigers were blanked 2-0 at No. 10 Connecticut and on Tuesday Princeton fell to top-ranked Maryland 4-1.
The Tigers, now 6-5 for the season, will look to return to their winning ways on Saturday against Brown. Princeton has won its last six meetings with Brown and has won 11-straight games against league opponents dating back to last season.
Princeton is 4-0 in the league and is tied with Brown at 3-0. Yale comes next in third at 2-1, but has a loss to Princeton already this season. All the other league schools already have either two or three league losses. Princeton has outscored its Ivy opponents 14-3 this season and has one league shutout to its credit, while Brown has shut out all three Ivy opponents it has faced. Princeton defeated Yale 2-1, Dartmouth 2-1, Columbia 4-1 and Cornell 6-0. Brown edged Dartmouth 2-0, Harvard 1-0 and Columbia 1-0.
Princeton is 20-8-1 all-time against Brown, and has a 12-1 lead at Princeton in the series. Princeton has also won the last six meetings in the series dating back to the 1999 season when the two teams were Ivy League co-champions. Last season Princeton won 3-0 in Providence with all three goals coming off of penalty corners. Current junior Paige Schmidt had two goals and an assist in that win.
Brown is 7-2 overall this season and has allowed just nine goals in nine games played. The Bears enter Saturday's game off a pair of shutouts, edging Fairfield 2-0 and Columbia 1-0.
On Sunday the Tigers return to the field to take on Hofstra in the second series meeting between the schools. Hofstra won the first meeting, which came last season, 3-0 at Class of '52 Stadium. Pride goalkeeper Jessica Cowperthwait made eight saves as Hofstra was outshot but pulled off the win.
The Pride are 9-4 overall this season and 3-1 in the CAA entering this weekend. Hofstra and Princeton have faced three common opponents this season and fared the same against all three – defeating Monmouth and Columbia, and falling to Connecticut.
Princeton continues its stretch of home games next weekend when it hosts Ivy-rival Harvard on Saturday and 18th-ranked American on Sunday.
