Oakley Scores Two as Princeton Ties Boston College in Season Opener

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior Marykate Oakley scored two goals as the ninth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team opened the season with a 2-2 tie against 10th-ranked Boston College on Friday afternoon at Kelley Rink.
The tie marked the second-straight between the two opponents as Princeton and Boston College have now skated to 2-2 draws in the Tigers' opener in each of the past two seasons. Princeton has now tied its last three season openers as it tied Providence 4-4 two seasons ago.
Princeton outplayed the Eagles in the opening period and got on the board 2:05 into the season when Oakley scored on the power play with assists coming from sophomore Annie Greenwood and senior captain Kim Pearce.
Oakley made the score 2-0 in Princeton's favor at the 10:20 mark with her second goal, this time coming with assists from seniors Laura Watt and Dina McCumber.
Boston College got on the board with a power-play goal of its own 1:52 later when Meghan Fardelmann found the back of the net and Deborah Spillane knotted the game at 2-2 17 seconds into the second period.
Neither team scored from that point on as Princeton sophomore goaltender Kristen Young made 30 saves and Molly Chaus stopped 29 Princeton shots in the BC net.
Each team scored one power-play goal in the game. Princeton was 1 for 8 with the man advantage while Boston College was 1 for 10.
The Tigers extended their unbeaten streak against Boston College to 20 games. Princeton is 16-0-4 all-time against the Eagles.
Princeton (0-0-1) opens up the ECAC Hockey League portion of its schedule tomorrow afternoon at Quinnipiac. Boston College is now 3-0-1.
