Men's and Women's Ice Hockey Open Home Season This Weekend
October 25, 2006 | Men's Ice Hockey, Women's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The 2006-2007 Princeton men's and women's hockey teams begin its home schedule this weekend at Baker Rink. The women open things up with a 7 p.m. contest against ECACHL foe St. Lawrence on Friday night, October 27, while the men take to the ice against Bentley on Saturday, October 28th at 7 p.m.
The Tiger women's ice hockey team is returning 18 letterwinners from a 2005-2006 squad which won the Ivy League Championship and made its way into the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championships. Key of that team who are back this year are Ivy League Player of the Year Kim Pearce and Ivy League Rookie of the Year Annie Greenwood. The Tigers (1-0-1) return to Baker this weekend with the momentum of their opening weekend in which they skated to a 2-2 tie against Boston College and won 6-3 at Quinnipiac, with ECAC Hockey League games against St. Lawrence on Friday evening at 7 p.m. and Clarkson on Saturday at 4 p.m. Saturday's game starts a Princeton hockey doubleheader as it will be followed by the men's game.
In his third season as head coach of the men's ice hockey team, Guy Gadowsky has brought a winning swagger back to the program. This was evident in wins over 2005 National Champion Denver in the Denver Cup and a home-ice sweep of Colgate and Cornell, a feat not accomplished since the 1999-00 season. Among 18 letterwinners back from that sqaud are captain Darroll Powe and leading scorer Grant Goekner-Zoeller. This talented cast of players has an exciting home schedule in front of them that includes three 2006 NCAA Championships participants (Cornell, Harvard, and Nebraska-Omaha), as well as the US Under 18 National Team. It all starts Saturday, October 28 against bentley in the second-half of the hockey doubleheader at 7 p.m. Featured promotions for the home opener include Team Jersey Night - youth, 12 and under, receive free admission to the game by wearing their team's jersey - and Halloween at Baker - start the Halloween festivities early as Princeton Athletics provides a trick-or-treat experience for all youth in attendance. Season tickets still remain and provide an affordable entertainment option for all ice hockey fans. Single game tickets may be purchased in advance for $6 (youth) and $9 (adult) and on the day of the game for $9 (note all Cornell tickets are $12). For more ticket information click here.
