Water Polo Advances to Southern Championship With Two Wins

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The 15th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team advanced to Sunday's Southern Championship game by defeating Washington & Jefferson and Johns Hopkins on Saturday. Princeton will meet Navy in tomorrow's championship game.
Princeton beat Washington & Jefferson 14-9 in the first round. Princeton led most of the way in the win, racing to an early lead and stretching out an 8-3 lead at the half. From that point the Tigers held the margin on its way to the 14-9 final score. Nine players scored in the win with Alex Edmunds leading the way with three goals. Chris Kelsch, Mark Zalewski and Sean Dryden all added two goals in the game.
Scottie Hvidt made four saves in the opening half of the game and allowed three goals. Henry Fyfe completed the game with six second-half saves.

In the evening's first semifinal game, the Tigers downed Johns Hopkins 15-10 after taking control of the game in the second quarter. After a tie score of 3-3, the Tigers junped out to a 7-5 lead at the half and built their lead from there. Eric Vreeland and Reid Joseph each scored four goals in the win, and Scott Syverson made nine saves, including two on five-meter penalty shots.
