Volleyball Completes Terrific Season With 3-0 Win, 21-3 Record
November 15, 2006 | Women's Volleyball
Led by Parker Henritze's 20 kills and Sheena Donohue's double-double, the Princeton women's volleyball team completed an outstanding 2006 season with a 3-0 home win over Penn. The Tigers, who were a perfect 8-0 at home this season, ended their season 21-3 overall and 11-3 in the Ivy League, good enough for second place.
Despite falling out of the Ivy League race last Saturday at Cornell, the Tigers would not allow Penn to end their season on a down note. Princeton won the critical late points in the first and third games to earn a 30-28, 30-25, 31-29 victory.
Princeton jumped out to a big lead in the opening game, peaking at a 16-9 advantage after a kill by Lindsey Ensign. The feisty Quakers slowly cut the deficit into a manageable amount, but the Tigers never let the score get even. Princeton got two late kills from Donohue to clinch the 30-28 win. Princeton took control of the second game midway through, as a run of kills by Donohue and Henritze built a five-point lead for the Tigers. Princeton maintained the advantage throughout the game to hold on to the win.
Penn came out swinging in the third game and held a four-point lead as late as 23-19, but it was Princeton's turn to methodically cut into that advantage. Kills by Henritze and Ensign, followed by an ace from Henritze, made it a one-point game, and an ace by senior Joanna Mandecki, who joined Bayley Dixon in a prematch Senior Night recognition, gave Princeton its first lead at 25-24. Henritze added two late kills, and a Penn attack error ended the match.
Ensign added 15 kills, most of which came in the third game, and Donohue recorded 12 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore Bailey Robinson recorded 44 assists and 11 digs, while junior Emily Turner assed 10 digs of her own.
