Led By Henritze And Ensign, Women's Volleyball Places Three On All-Ivy Team
November 21, 2006 | Women's Volleyball
The Princeton women's volleyball team placed three players on the 2006 All-Ivy team, including two on the first team. Sophomore Lindsey Ensign, who led the league comfortably in hitting percentage, was a unanimous selection, while 2005 Ivy Rookie of the Year Parker Henritze was another first-teamer. Sophomore setter Bailey Robinson, who thrived in her first year of varsity competition, was named to the All-Ivy second team.
Ensign led the Ivy League with a .438 attack percentage, more than 43 percentage points better than her closest competitor. Her 4.56 kills per game tied her for second in the Ivy League, and her 1.14 blocks per game were good enough for third in the league. She was a multiple-time Ivy League Player of the Week after several dominant performances for the 21-win volleyball team, which returns all starters next season and should also return 2005 CVU.com Libero of the Year Jenny McReynolds.
Henritze, a 2005 second-team All-Ivy selection, finished fourth in the league with 4.41 kills per game and ninth in the league with 3.72 digs per game. She is the only player in the Ivy League to rank in the Top 10 in both categories. Another former Ivy League Player of the Week, she was the go-to hitter on the outside for Princeton during its run to second place in the league standings.
Robinson was named second-team All-Ivy despite averaging more assists per game (13.63) than any setter in the league. After missing all of her freshman season with injury, Robinson paced the offense and also turned into an effective blocker for Princeton. Her chemistry with Ensign, a teammate for more than a decade now, was clear as the two worked together all season, but she also helped Henritze and freshman Sheena Donohue to strong seasons on the outside.
